We've reached the midpoint of the 2011 race season, with a 2-week break
on the race calendar following a fabulous Western Regional
Championships event at Mammoth last weekend. Regionals results are
included in the season standings.

Check out the Photos page for race photos from Sasha Glushenko - he's
posted albums from the December Mammoth GS opener and the January
Sierra at Tahoe races, as well as from the regionals.

Our next races will be a 3-races-in-2-days GS weekend at Northstar on
Feb.26-27, the weekend after the upcoming President's Day holiday,
followed immediately by a Monday SG doubleheader at Squaw on Feb. 28.
Unfortunately for the speed racing crew, the Mammoth downhills next
week have been cancelled due to lack of signups for the USSA open
series; our masters races were attached to that event, so they're not
happening.

Midseason Break
---------------
Racing news is quiet this week in the Far West, following a truly
fantastic 4-day event at Mammoth for the Western Regionals featuring
great weather, outstanding racing conditions, and challenging
competition. The high-pressure ridge that's been sitting over the West
Coast since the big holiday storm cycle looks to be finally breaking
down, so fresh snow for the Sierras is in the outlook for the coming
week. Racing resumes next week following the upcoming President's Day
holiday weekend.

The Photos page has been updated with links to 2011 race photos from
the western regionals races by Sasha Glushenko. He also shot photos at
the opening Mammoth GS races in December and the Sierra at Tahoe SL
races in early January, so take a few minutes to check out his photo
albums!

Western Regionals
-----------------

The 2011 Western Regional Championships were hosted by Far West
division at Mammoth Mountain on Feb. 3-6. Competitors were treated to 4
days of spectacular racing conditions - clear, sunny, good course
conditions. The Mammoth Race Department did a first-class job, with
excellent course preparation and execution.

Complete event results and regional champions team are posted on the
Western Regionals page of ussamasters.org.
The 4 races of the Western Regionals are also scored in the Far West
Masters season standings, as are all races held in our division. See
the Race Results page for complete results and the updated Season
Standings rankings for 2011.

Also, be sure to check out the race photos from the weekend races by
Sasha Glushenko. He also shot photos at the opening Mammoth GS races in
December and the Sierra at Tahoe SL races in early January, so take a
few minutes to check out his photo albums!

Mammoth DH week cancelled
-------------------------

Due to the lack of sign ups and interest the Far West Open Series
Downhills scheduled for February 21 - 24, 2011 have been cancelled.
Consequently, our masters downhill races that "piggybacked" on the Far
West USSA race schedule are also cancelled. All entries received to
date will be torn.

Speed racing alternatives include the SG doubleheader at Squaw on Mon
Feb. 28 following the Northstar GS weekend. In the National Speed
Series, the Soldier Mountain DH's are back this year Feb. 28-Mar. 2,
along with PNSA's Schweitzer SG's on Feb. 24 - see the 2011 Speed
Series page on ussamasters.org for event announcements and details.
