Greetings all. I hope you are still skiing.

I'm a little late with a note about the Bernard Cup. I've been somewhat distracted with family issues. Overall it was a difficult season in terms of getting races off. A hat's off and wishes for a speedy recovery to Mike Braun for holding the schedule together. All of our best wishes are also with Don Merritt and Tim Smith for rapid recovery.

We had a great finals weekend at Squaw Valley with five races counting in the Bernard Cup. The Squaw Valley race department did an excellent job of pulling off the five races with bad weather for only one day. Congratulations to Emily Andrews (W08) and Pierre Jeangirard (M08) winners of the 2017 Bernard Cup.

The Lodge at Tahoe Donner was the site for our over-subscribed and well-attended awards dinner. We heard from scholarship recipients, raised some money for the scholarship program with the silent auction and raffle for a pair of skis. Many thanks to Eddie Mozen for his hard work on the program.

The Cantanho "Spirit of Masters" award, which honors a competitor who exemplifies participation with cheerfulness and joy, as well as contributions to our program that encourages others to share the enjoyment of masters racing, went to Randall Sussek. We all appreciate Randall's photographs and his great spirit on the hill. I'm also personally grateful for all of Randall's help in arranging awards parties at Mammoth.

Randall was one of three persons who competed in all 12 races held this season. The other two were Emily Andrews and Jonathon Garey-Sage.

Rookies of the year were Sara Gold (W01) and Peter Kudola (M03).

Sara Gold also topped the women's leader bib field and will have her name inscribed on our new annual perpetual trophy for the top Man and Woman of the year.
Women's leader bibs were won by:

1. Gold, Sara (W01) - 561 - 10(9)
2(t). Andrews, Emily (W08) - 560 - 12(12)
2(t). Wentworth, Kim (W06) - 560 - 10(10)
4. Lewis, Deb (W08) - 440 - 7(5)
5. Levy, Andrea (W01) - 400 - 5(4)

Emily will get #2 by virtue of having competed in more events.

The men's leader bib's were won by:

1. Filimon, Mihai (M04) - 460 - 5(5)
2. Lis, Wojciech (M01) - 435 - 10(6)
3. Shklovski, Mike (M04) - 400 - 6(5)
4. Cronin-Wilton, Seth (M03) - 365 - 7(7)
5. Jeangirard, Pierre (M08) - 361 - 10(10)
6. Welch, Brian (M03) - 360 - 4(4)
7. Fulton, Doug (M07) - 347 - 12(11)
8. Papazian, Ara (M05) - 340 - 5(5)
9. Braun, Michael (M07) - 331 - 7(7)
10. Sady, Scott (M05) - 316 - 12(9)

Mihai's name will also be inscribed on the Men's perpetual trophy.

If you finished in the top three in your class and were not at the finals banquet to get your trophy, contact me so I can arrange to get it to you.
