Lucy Schram’s message below has the schedule for the Far West convention, which includes officials clinics on Sunday Nov. 5.  The message doesn’t give the location.  It’s been at Squaw Valley the last few years.  This is your opportunity for required biannual updates, to get certification as a referee, or upgrade to TD.  We need more officials to help manage our races.  Also, the programs are interesting in terms of what it takes to run one of our events.  I encourage you to participate.  Lucy promises more information soon.

It is with absolute excitement that I am able to start rolling out information for the upcoming Far West Fall Convention and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Regional Club Excellence. Yes that is a Club Excellence on our own turf, you do not have to make it to Park City in May, it is coming to us this year! Sessions geared for each level of coach, for program directors, for clubs, parents and race organizers all around!

Friday, November 3 highlights
Coaches Education with a focus for Full Time Coaches: ‘What do we Coach? For This Year’ with Ron Kipp
Regional Club Excellence lead by U.S. Ski & Snowboard – session possibilities: Long Term Athlete Development, Club Development, Engagin Parents, Creating a Culture of Excellence, Evening round table discussions
Laura Sullivan with USCSA will be here to present Skiing Pathways after High School

Saturday, November 4th highlights
Athlete Assessments
Parents Sessions – sessions lead by U.S. Ski & Snowboard, and Skiing Pathways after High School for the parents and a session for just athletes, too.
Coaches education(all day): with a focus on entry level or weekend only coaches
TD Update and new candidates
Tahoe League Meeting


Sunday, November 5th – Officials Education
Note for ROC’s: All Start and Finish Refs are now required to hold a Jury Advisor/Ref/Chief of Race certification (there is no longer a difference for scored and non-scored)

More detailed and official information, along with registration will be available later this week or early next week. Make sure you block out the weekend, get your travel plans set and lodging reserved….it’s bound to be an action packed weekend for each and every member of the Far West!
