A small but dedicated group of Far West competitors traveled to Aspen CO last week to compete in a
week of masters racing, starting with the national championship Downhill the first half of the week
and then four days of international FIS Masters Cup racing on Thursday-Sunday Feb. 5-8.
Participating racers reported an outstanding week of racing, with warm sunny conditions and an
international field bolstered by European teams lured by Colorado snow and the nearby Beaver Creek
World Alpine Championships.

After two days of training, the national championship downhill was held on Wednesday, along with a
second Rocky Mountain downhill race, with both counted for the 2015 National Speed Series. Despite
the lack of any opportunities at home for speed training prior to the event, our FW racers took on
the challenge, with Tim Stewart taking the title as M08 national DH champion.

The field increased for Thursday's SG, the opening race of the FIS Masters Cup, with 128
competitors from the US, Canada, and countries around the world, including France, Italy, Germany,
Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, and Brazil. Great racing and weather
were reported throughout the event, with GS races on Friday and Saturday and the final SL race on
Sunday. The regional champions team was announced on Sunday, with Gate de Mattei of Far West coming
home wearing the M13 regional champion vest.

Good job and congratulations to all who raced!! Complete event results are posted on
