[FWM News] Training Info and Mammoth Season Opener

The start of the 2017-2018 season is only a few weeks away and Sierra ski areas are opening up as 
early season snowstorms start to come through! We've updated the Training information page on the 
web site to pull together information on masters training opportunities in Far West. 

There are several active Masters training programs in our division that provide regular 
opportunities for race training. You can find regular masters training groups whose members compete 
in Far West Masters races at Squaw, Mammoth, Mt Rose, and Diamond Peak. Most offer both season-long 
participation as well as daily drop-in opportunities. These programs all offer gate training and 
work with competitors of a wide range of abilities - novice racers as well as experienced 
competitors are welcome!!

Mammoth will once again be offering a full-week masters training camp the week after Thanksgiving 
on Nov. 27-Dec. 1, leading in to our season-opening SL races on Sat. Dec 2. This is a week-long 
camp geared towards the serious racer with GS and SL training including drills, progressions and 
gate training, and video analysis. Participants can join on a per-day basis or sign up for the 
entire week. Discounted lodging options are available until the room block cutoff date on Sun. Nov. 
26 - great deals to stay slope-side! 

The opening races of the season with be a SL doubleheader at Mammoth on Saturday Dec. 2. Mammoth is 
a reliable early season race venue, so this is a good weekend to come a few days early or attend 
the full week training camp to get your ski legs tuned up before kicking out of the start gate on 
Saturday. Race registration is open online at SkiRaceReg.com - early entry deadline is Sun. 11/26; 
registration for online entries closes Thu 11/30.
