NORTHSTAR
---------

Although weather forecasts had predicted weekend snow, the Northstar
race weekend went off without a hitch. Both days offered a mix of
overcast, light snow, and sunshine breaks, but overall the racing
conditions were excellent. The Challenger/FollowMe race hill was in
outstanding shape, providing a long (minute-plus) course with a mix of
terrain features to challenge the competitors.

The Northstar race crews put on an excellent event, with the race hill
well-prepared and maintained each day, and we appreciated the warm
welcome we received from the Northstar staff. Saturday's post-race
party featured copious quantities of Mexican food for all, along with
some great raffle prizes and a chance for everyone to unwind at the end
of the day.

Complete results and updated season standings are posted on the web
site:

GEORGENE BIHLMAN
----------------

On a sad note, Georgene Bihlman passed away last week after a long
struggle with Parkinson's, only 10 days before her 85th birthday on
Feb. 24. Georgene was a lifelong ski racer and a fierce competitor. In
addition to her numerous championships and many years as a member of
the National Masters team, Georgene was inducted into the National Ski
and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2002.

More about her life and ski racing accomplishments is posted on the web
site.

Mammoth SG's
------------

The March competition schedule opens with a 3-day speed weekend at
Mammoth, with 3 SG's and a Super Combi (1 run each of SG and SL). The
Friday SG and the first of the two Saturday SG's count in the National
Speed Series (NSS). Friday morning will include a training run open to
all competitors prior to the race; participation is strongly encouraged
to allow all racers an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the
race venue.

Registration for the races can be done by printing the entry form from
the web site and sending to Mammoth, or online at alpinereg.com.

Mammoth will also offer SG and SL training on Thursday Mar. 4 for a
special training fee of $60. SG inspection will be 8:30-9, with SG
training from 9-11 followed by SL training from 11:30-1pm. Stop by the

Bernard Cup and McKinney Cup Races
----------------------------------

Continuing with the March schedule, the classic Bernard Cup GS weekend
will be held at Squaw Valley on Mar. 20-21, followed by the McKinney
Cup SL/GS event at Mt. Rose on Mar. 27-28. Squaw has put on great
races for us this season and Mt. Rose is a perennial favorite, so both
of these should be fun and challenging race events.

Sun Valley Nationals
--------------------

The 2010 National Championships will be held Mar. 29-Apr. 2 in Sun
Valley, ID. The event will open on Monday with a Super-Combined,
followed by the SG/GS/SL events of the technical nationals. Sun Valley
has great race hills, along with history and ambience to satisfy all
tastes. All division entries were been submitted to USSA on Feb. 15.

There are still slots open if you are interested in competing. Visit
the nationals page on ussamasters.org for more information and links to
the printable entry form. Late fees of $10/race apply for entries
received after Feb. 25, so get'em in now!! Contact the Race Secretary
at nationals at ussamasters.org with questions.
