Next up on the January race calendar: Mammoth SG weekend! Conditions
are excellent and the weather forecasts are all calling for continued
good weather all week. Entries are due by this Wednesday, racing
starts on Friday morning.

Note for entering online through SkiRaceReg.com: be sure to click on
the "Races" page to see the complete schedule so you can sign up for
the Friday training and all 5 SG races next weekend. The left sidebar
section of "Upcoming Races" only shows the next few races, so you won't
see SG #5 unless you go to the Races page for the full listing.

Mammoth is offering open training on Thursday afternoon for all
competitors (details below), so everyone can have a chance to get on
the race hill. There's also a timed training run on Friday morning.
Open class competitors: remember that you must elect to be moved to OP
class *before* the event.

Regionals are coming up soon as well. Complete details are posted on
the web site; you can enter online for this event through
SkiRaceReg.com for the races and the banquet. Mammoth will be offering
open training for all competitors on Wed. Feb. 2; current plan is GS in
the morning, SL in the afternoon.

Mammoth SG weekend
-------------------

The MLK holiday weekend has offered great weather and skiing in the
Sierras, with the big December snowpack combined with warm sunny days.
Coming up with weekend on our race schedule is a 3-day SG event at
Mammoth Mountain. We'll be doing "double days" with two runs per day to
get the most value (and fun!) out of the preparations required to host
a speed event.

The weather forecasts call for more of the same - warm and sunny - and
we'll be racing on the "frontside course" from Hair Jump onto Terries,
the same venue where the Western Regionals will be contested the first
week of February. This is a fun, safe SG course, so if you're new to
the discipline this is a good opportunity to try out your first speed
event. For the experienced "speed nuts", this course offers a mix to
test both your gliding skills on the top section and high-speed turns
on the final section of Terries.

Mammoth will be offering open SG training to all competitors on
Thursday afternoon from 12-2:30 (in addition to the timed training run
on Friday morning before the first race), so if you can arrive early
you'll have plenty of opportunity to get get up to speed on the course.
All 5 SG races will be scored for FW Masters season standings. The
first two races (Friday afternoon and the morning Saturday race) are
also the first two events in the 2011 National Speed Series.

Reminder to Open class competitors: if you wish to compete in open
class, you must elect to be moved into the OP class on the start list
no later than the day before the event, when entries are due. We will
*not* have open class in the two NSS races - those will be run with
(only) standard national age classes for NSS scoring.
